Fast times and a guest post on Miss Minimalist

If you haven’t already checked out this site, I highly recommend MissMinimalist.com.  You can find all ideas minimalist from the practical to the philosophical.  If you enjoy travel AND keeping it simple, there are some interesting ideas on that topic as well!  You’ll find my guest post on the minimalist spotlight today.

In the meantime, I hope you’ll excuse my decision to prioritize my life and not post on my own blog for a couple of days while I pack up, move out of my old apartment and attempt to pass the ‘theory’ section of the French driving test–all without a car and blindfolded.

Well, ok, not blindfolded. . . I’ll be back by Thursday!

The “theory” section? Is that like:

What’s the maximum speed for approaching an intersection that will still allow a pedestrian in the middle of the street to leap to safety?

What if the pedestrian were on crutches?

LOL, I had to re-do the whole French driving test thing too, at age 32, hugely pregnant with baby #2, surrounded by 17 and 18 year olds. The French “code” is HARD. The signs here are completely different than in the States and not only that, there are the “priorité à droites” that practically got me killed before j’ai pigé le truc! En plus, had to learn how to drive a shift, which I had missed at age 16. It was quite an adventure. I wish you très bonne chance.

Cara

I really enjoyed your post at MM. It’s interesting how you describe feeling a little frightened by not having a career. We’re just not used to not having that identity when it’s gone. I too am watching my career shrink as my hours at work continue to shrink. But I also see it as the opening of something new. I do know my career is not me. Looking forward to reading more!

Clisby–pretty much. Calculate how many grams per liter of blood your body will metabolize each hour after drinking (with food or without food). Grrrrr. I’m determined to pass the sucker. But we’ll see.

Cara–the funniest part is that they gave me a free pass of 2 years during which I simply drove by using the force before I absolutely had to pass their tests. Oh man–the right of ways are ridiculous. No wonder so many people die on the road here.

Nomadneedles–thanks! And yes, fearful is sometimes just ‘uncomfortable’ with the new.

Good Luck Packing and Moving. If I were closer and not at work today I would offer to lend a hand or atleast bring some coffee (in reuseable cups).

You mean there is a theory portion on the driving test?

Tree–you’re awesome! And I managed to find time to get some coffee at the local cafe!
